Eliminate Indecision to Grow Your Inner Strength: 3-Part Series

Part 1 of this series on growing your inner strength discussed how inner strength is a combination of resilience, grit, and persistence. I also discussed how inner strength can be learned and grows with practice over time – like a muscle. Helping you move from high achievement to sustainable high-performance by increasing your ability to grow and direct your willpower, self-discipline, and staying power.

If growing your inner strength sounds like something that could be useful to attaining your goals and creating the life you want. If you haven’t already, be sure to go back and revisit Part 1 of this series.

In this 3-part series, I’ll present to you 3 practices that you can begin implementing right away to support your ability to improve and grow your inner strength. Here’s the second:

Eliminate Indecision

Indecision is not only time-consuming, it’s also a huge drain on your energy. The time you spend in indecision is directly proportional to a lack of results in your personal and professional life. Please read the previous sentence again and take a minute to reflect on its validity. It’s unlikely that anyone has experienced both massive indecision and massive success simultaneously.

Indecision is like being locked up in a mental prison. Once you put yourself in there, your inability to decide keeps you there. Therefore, indecision is a choice. Your choice not to decide is an unconscious choice for failure. Most people are indecisive because they are afraid of making the wrong choice. They perceive that a wrong choice would represent a failure – while in reality, their indecision results in failure – what a mind fuck!

Your attempt to avoid failure actually leads you to manifest it. Instead of making a decision that may have a successful outcome, you are choosing to abstain from taking ownership. Taking ownership and being decisive is the only way to escape your mental prison.

Chronic indecision indicates a lack of trust in your own judgment and a lack of clarity on your wants, needs, and desires. The perception that you may be missing information necessary in order to make an informed decision, also an indication of chronic indecision. This misperception is often used as an excuse to remain indecisive.

At its core, chronic indecision represents a lack of connection between your true-self identity and the body, causing an inability to receive or interpret intuitive messages through your “gut instinct”. The answers to all of your questions lie within. However, if you have been socially habituated to ignore that inner voice or instinct, you will remain susceptible to external pressures, societal conditioning, and social norms in your decision-making. As a result, you are unlikely to choose what’s actually right for you. What’s right for you is not exclusively represented in your duties, responsibilities, obligations, and the expectations of others, but more importantly, the fulfillment of your needs, wants, and desires.

Many people have never acquired decision-making skills. Becoming a more decisive person is both a skill and a mindset worth your time. When you become decisive, there are no wrong decisions or choices – only opportunities. Even when you find yourself in a reality that does not align with your values and expectations, you can make a new, more informed decision and pivot from that new vantage point to accelerate toward your goals.

I recommend adopting a mindset that the vast majority of your decisions are flexible – not final – and stop paralyzing yourself with indecision. Decisions that are final may deeply challenge or affirm your value system. I suggest reading, The Power of Decision by Raymond Charles Barker. Decide, make a plan, commit, stay the course, set proper expectations, set your intentions, and take meaningful, consistent action! Eliminating indecision will grow your inner strength.

Take some time to reflect and journal on one aspect of your life, relationships, or business where you are experiencing indecision. Contemplate and visualize your ideal outcome. Ideally, what is it that you would have or need in order to make a decision that would move you one step closer to your desired outcome? As soon as you recognize what it is, take action in that direction!
