Fuel the Fire: Prepare to Meet BIG Goals this Year
Research shows that most people lose steam toward their goals about 6 weeks into the new year, but why is that?
If you’re inspired to pursue massive growth and to create powerful outcomes this year and beyond, it’s necessary to use the right tools to overcome the inevitable mental, emotional, and physical roadblocks that will arise.
In this blog, you'll learn about one game-changing tool you can implement right away to get more clarity, energy, motivation, and momentum toward your goals. But first, let me tell you a story…
The Story of the Chinese Bamboo Tree…
There once was a man who felt discouraged, he took stock of the resolutions he made last year - but nothing in his life had changed. He was still the same person with the same problems. He began to lose hope, so he went to speak to a wise mentor.
The mentor asked…
“Do you know how long it takes for the giant bamboo to grow as tall as a building?”
“No. I don’t know.” the man responded.
“During the first year, the tiny plant is watered and fertilized… and nothing happens.
It is watered and fertilized for another whole year… and another…
and another… and still, nothing happens.
Then on the fifth year, it shoots up to the sky! In six weeks, the bamboo grows 90 feet.
So how long does it take for it to grow so high?”, asked the mentor.
“Six weeks.”, the man replied.
“That’s your mistake.”, said the mentor. “It takes five years. If the farmer had stopped watering the tiny plant at any point during those five years, it would have died.”
The man asked, “what was happening during all those years?”
The mentor replied… “Underneath the ground, an enormous network of roots was developing to support the bamboo’s sudden growth. Growth takes patience and perseverance. Every drop of water makes a difference. Every step you take makes an impact. You might not see the change right away, but growth is happening.”
Now, ask yourself… What are you willing to do to make your dreams come true?
Are you willing to do what it takes? Are you willing to take action? Are you willing to push past your fears and doubts? How much faith and belief are you willing to have?
So what’s the moral of the story? This man was not prepared to receive the success that he desired in his life. Not only did he not know how to create change in his life, but he had completely unrealistic expectations of what it would require with respect to time and effort.
This is not uncommon when we fail to plan for what we wish to create, and instead, rely on our simple desires and willpower to lead the way. Unfortunately, neither are strong or reliable enough to overcome the test of time, our limiting beliefs, or our emotional baggage.
So what does it take?
How do you add fuel to the fire in order to ensure you don’t lose confidence or the energy to stay in consistent action? How do you get prepared for unknown, but inevitable, obstacles toward your goals? Most of which, you’ll likely place in your own way..
Good intentions aren’t enough! You need a plan!
Many people will lose sight of their goals this year because of their failure to plan. An even bigger percentage of people will miss the mark because of their failure to execute on their existing plan. Instead of staying in meaningful, consistent action - they drift. When you’re drifting, you’re living life in a reactionary manner. If every day is reactionary, you may be:
in a fixed mindset
operating on limiting beliefs
lacking vision or inspiration
feeling high levels of anxiety and frustration
And if any of these are true for you, then you likely find yourself:
making excuses
engaging in poor habits
neglecting your self-care
focused on problems, not solutions
lacking clarity
hustling and grinding to make ends meet
If this sounds familiar, not only are you not alone, but you’re most certainly lacking one game-changing tool you can implement right away to get more clarity, energy, motivation, and momentum in your life and business - it’s called a Development Plan.
Now, start writing out your DEVELOPMENT PLAN and get into consistent, meaningful action - ASAP:
Part I
Cast out a desired OUTCOME and have an OBJECTIVE (goal)
Who do I need to grow into? How does your personal identity and what you believe about yourself need to change?
What do I need to improve?
What do I want to make happen?
Part II
What must I learn to grow into this outcome (goal)?
about myself?
what skills do I need?
what can I learn from others?
Part III
How will I learn it?
What specific books must I read?
What other specific media would support my learning?
What am I consuming that detracts from my learning?
Who can help me learn and how? Write their names down.
Coaches, mentors, community you are already in or need to find
Part IV
When will it/does it show up on my calendar? (Most important part of the plan)
Decide, carve out the time necessary each day, and PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDAR
Smartphone calendar with automatic reminders strongly preferred
The success of a Development Plan is FIXED based on scheduling time to EXECUTE the plan
If it's not on your calendar, you will not be developing yourself or progressing toward your goals at the rate thats actually possible for you
We recommend creating a development plan for each one of your goals. If it would help you, identify milestones that will serve as markers for your progress, and create a timeline by when you need to reach each of your desired milestones that supports the overall timeline for your goal.
Remember, you are the Chief Learning Officer and Architect of your life. It’s no one else’s responsibility to keep you motivated, enthusiastic, or energized toward your goals. Motivation is a feeling that is generated from within. It comes from taking meaningful ACTION.
Consistent meaningful action comes much easier when you have a plan for execution and a timeline by which to take specific actions.
Try it and let us know the new outcomes you create! We’d love to celebrate your wins with you.
